Three panels of distinguished historians, journalists, government officials, and scholars. Three compelling issues:
E PLURIBUS UNUM: “Out of many, one.” America’s proud motto. Yet today we are more divided than ever. Foreign adversaries seek to weaken us by dividing us even more. Where and how can we strengthen our union – the common bonds that make us all Americans – while respecting (and celebrating) our diversity?
AMERICA’S ROLE IN THE WORLD: Hong Kong. Venezuela. Syria. Russia. Should extending liberty be a purposeful part of America’s foreign policy, or is it rather our job to tend to liberty at home trusting that others will find their own way? Is what we are calling the American idea ascendant in today’s globally interconnected world -- or more at risk?
CHECKS AND BALANCES: How do you assess America’s unique system of checks and balances (including the power of impeachment), and the respective roles of the three branches of government, our federal structure, the people, and the free press in ensuring our liberty?
