LOS ANGELES– Occidental College, a small liberal arts college here recently thrust into the political spotlight by a former student named Barrack Obama, honored another famous student: football star and Republican heavy weight Jack Kemp.
With Mr. Kemp’s widow, children and grandchildren looking on Friday evening, Occidental unveiled a bronze of a young Mr. Kemp in football uniform, and renamed its football stadium after the former vice presidential candidate.
Mr. Kemp died in 2009. He graduated from Occidental in 1957. While at school, the quarterback-turned-politician played for the football team and met his future wife, Joanne Main, who was also a student there.
